Photography and Cameras :: Photography Careers Photography Careers:Your Choice of Careers in PhotographyFor many people, when they think of photography careers, things like working in a portrait studio or doing ads, or maybe chasing celebrities and politicians come to mind. While it is true that photography careers include such things, there are a lot more career paths available. Let us take a look at some of them. First, of course, is the old reliable – the portrait shooter who works in a studio and takes pictures of people, either alone or in groups. And then maybe they also go out to shoot a wedding, bar mitzvah or graduation. If you take on such photography careers, you should also be prepared to learn how to run a small business. Things like advertising, keeping the books, and maintain a studio will be part of your life. Commercial Photographers Then there are the commercial photographers, taking pictures of a sizzling steak, or maybe a sizzling, hot lady in a bikini! Yeah, clearly photography careers run the gamut from the dull to the exciting. However, did you know that a photographer can also be considered an artist? Ever heard of Ansel Adams? Here was a man who spent his life taking black and white pictures, mostly of the American West, and many of them now hang in fine arts galleries all over the world. There are many more like him, too. Industrial Photographers Going to the other extreme in photography careers, industrial photographers take pictures for books, training manuals, catalogs and web sites or sometimes they capture workers operating machinery to study their movements. That can be useful in looking for ways to improve efficiency. Scientific photographers take pictures that are used for scientific procedure and medical records. News Photographers Then there are the news photographers, taking pictures of the people and events that shape the community, nation and the world. This can include sports figures, politicians, celebrities, and notable people. Very often these photography careers mean being either a freelance self-employed worker or a salaried wage earner. Not only that, they can also involve a degree of danger and excitement. After all, going out to cover events such as natural disasters, accidents, or military or civil conflicts is not like a High School football game. Something to consider when contemplating a photography career such as that, is do you have the physical stamina to carry equipment long distances, and do you have the stomach for seeing some of the things you might see? Keep in mind; news photographers see many things that they can’t take a picture of, just because of human decency. So, you can see that photography careers are a varied and interesting list of jobs. If you want something simple and quiet, it is there. Do you crave travel and excitement? You can do it. If chasing Britney or Prince Andrew, or Elton John is your thing - that is available in photography careers too. It all depends on which of the myriad photography careers you want to opt for.
