Why NYC is Great for Photographers
The City That Never Sleeps
NYC photographers have an almost limitless supply of potential sites to shoot. New York, New York, the city so nice, they named it twice. The city has a deep, rich history, dating back to its days as New Amsterdam, back in colonial times. Today, there are the many boroughs and parks, the rivers and the skyscrapers – among them, the Empire State Building, the theatre district, and the ethnic communities such as Little Italy. And, of course, there is the night life and clubs. So, NYC photographers can take their pick of where to shoot and what to shoot. If you want to cruise along on the Staten Island Ferry and get shots of the city skyline, it is easy enough to do. If weddings and receptions are your bag as NYC photographers, there are beautiful houses of worship for all faiths and fabulous hotels and restaurants and clubs for the receptions.
More than Just Pictures
One thing that NYC photographers have available to them that many photographers don’t is the potential for artistic expression. There are a large number of art galleries throughout the city – from Soho to the Photo District and many other places – where photos are displayed as art. So, for those NYC photographers who are not interested in pictures of puppies or babies, or commercial endeavors, they can flex their artistic muscles and possibly get a showing at one of the galleries.
The Center of High Fashion and Advertising
Of course, New York City is well known as a major advertising center, with Madison Avenue, and as one of the centers of high fashion for the entire world. So a great many NYC photographers work in both areas. Advertisers like to have their models photographed in Central Park, down on the docks and dozens of other well known locations. Liberty Island, home to the Statue of Liberty is a popular spot for NYC photographers, as is Grand Central Station.
A Popular Tourist Stop
As one of the major cities in the United States and the world, New York City is a popular place for tourists to visit. As already mentioned, the city has the Statue of Liberty; then there is also Ellis Island, one of the major immigration points for the country; the theatres on Broadway; the Metropolitan Opera and many museums and libraries. When it comes to NYC photographers snapping outdoor fun, Central Park is very picturesque with its lakes and the zoo.
As a city frequented by tourists, NYC photographers can find plenty of work taking pictures for them - either pictures of the visitors, or pictures to be used in postcards and tourist guide books. So, clearly New York City photographers have a chance for a great career.
